Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced  Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Austin, Texas.

The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing  diesel-powered construction equipment, heavy machinery, and company vehicles .

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, preventive maintenance, and heavy equipment diagnostics. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify mechanical issues and complete repairs efficiently and safely.

Most repairs and maintenance are performed at our company maintenance shop. However, the Diesel Mechanic may occasionally be required to travel to job sites to diagnose, repair, or retrieve equipment that has broken down.  Company vehicles are provided for all work-related travel.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel-powered construction equipment, heavy machinery, trucks, and company vehicles.
  • Perform preventive and scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, lubrication, and other manufacturer-recommended services.
  • Diagnose diesel engine problems and determine appropriate repairs using computerized diagnostic equipment, testing tools, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair  diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brake systems, transmissions, fuel systems, cooling systems, and other mechanical components .
  • Identify worn, damaged, or defective components and replace or repair parts as necessary.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues, including wiring, batteries, starters, alternators, sensors, and related components.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot hydraulic pumps, hoses, cylinders, valves, and other hydraulic components.
  • Perform major and minor mechanical repairs on construction equipment and company vehicles.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and provide field service when necessary.
  • Travel to company job sites when necessary to diagnose, repair, or retrieve disabled equipment. Company transportation will be provided.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs using welders, torches, plasma cutters, and other appropriate equipment when necessary.
  • Review daily equipment inspection reports and address identified mechanical issues or schedule necessary repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, parts used, and services performed.
  • Maintain proper inventory of tools, replacement parts, and shop supplies.
  • Keep the maintenance shop, tools, and work areas organized and in safe working condition.
  • Communicate equipment status, repair progress, parts needs, and mechanical concerns to the supervisor.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures and immediately report safety-related concerns.

Qualifications

  • Previous professional experience as a  Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or Heavy-Duty Service Technician is required.
  • Strong knowledge of  diesel engines and diesel fuel systems .
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing construction equipment and/or heavy machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, brake, transmission, cooling, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience using computerized diesel diagnostic equipment and mechanical testing tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance and major mechanical repairs.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, welding equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Ability to read service manuals, technical specifications, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical duties associated with repairing heavy equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the company’s pre-employment screening requirements.

Preferred Experience

Experience working on construction equipment such as:

  • Excavators
  • Skid steers
  • Backhoes
  • Loaders
  • Compact equipment
  • Diesel trucks
  • Trailers
  • Other diesel-powered construction machinery

Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as  Caterpillar (CAT), John Deere, Bobcat, CASE, Kubota, or similar manufacturers is highly preferred.

Work Environment

This position primarily works from the company’s maintenance shop in Austin, Texas. Occasional travel to local construction job sites may be required for equipment breakdowns, field repairs, or equipment retrieval. Company vehicles are provided for work-related travel.
